### summary
[🫆](Fingerprints|Required)

### description
Applying for a Polish passport is simple if you are a Polish citizen. If you are not sure, first confirm or obtain Polish citizenship. Passport desks are located at voivodeship offices, selected municipal offices, and Polish consulates abroad. Adult passports are valid for 10 years; children receive passports for 5 years (under 13) or until age 13 if younger than 5.

>The Polish passport is a biometric travel document. It stores your photo and fingerprints (for ages 12+).

> Hint: Bring originals. Some offices also ask for photocopies.

### Steps
1. Check your status
   - You must be a Polish citizen. If you are not sure, start with citizenship confirmation or recognition.
2. Book a visit
   - Make an appointment at a passport office (voivodeship office passport point) in Poland, or at a Polish consulate abroad.
3. Prepare documents
   - Collect proof of citizenship, photo, and any extra documents for minors or name changes.
4. Apply in person
   - Go to the office at your appointment time. Sign the form. Provide fingerprints if you are 12 or older.
5. Pay the fee
   - Pay at the cash desk or online if the office allows it.
6. Track status (optional)
   - Use the **sprawdz-status-paszportu** tool on gov.pl or call the office with the receipt number.
7. Collect your passport
   - Pick it up in person at the same office. Check your data before you leave.

> Important: You must apply and collect in person. Consulates have separate rules and queues.

### Terms and costs
- Processing time: usually a few weeks. It can be longer in peak periods or abroad.
- Fees: depend on age and discounts (students, large families, disabilities, retirees). Standard adult passport in Poland costs 140 PLN; discounts of 50% apply with valid entitlement cards. Express passports (7 working days) cost more and are available only in specific situations.
- Validity: adults typically receive a longer-validity passport than children. Minors get shorter validity.
- Processing abroad: Consulates may take 6-8 weeks; emergency temporary passports are valid up to 12 months.
- Fingerprints: mandatory for applicants aged 12 and over; children younger than 12 are exempt.

### Fee reductions and exemptions
- 50% discount commonly applies to students up to 26, retirees, people with disabilities, and members of large families (Karta Dużej Rodziny) with proof.
- Free or reduced fees may apply for data errors caused by the office or when replacing a passport due to technical defects.

### Emergency and temporary passports
- In urgent cases abroad, consulates may issue a temporary passport with shorter validity to allow return or essential travel. Bring proof of urgency (tickets, medical documents).

### Photo quick-check
- Size 35×45 mm, uniform light background, neutral expression, no headwear (except for religious reasons), glasses only if eyes are fully visible and no glare.
