Address Registration (ZAMELDOWANIE)

### summary

[🕒](3 months|EU deadline)

### description
Address registration is mandatory for all foreigners staying in Poland longer than 30 days (non-EU) or 3 months (EU citizens). This process is called "ZAMELDOWANIE" in Polish and must be completed at your local district office. Registration confirms where you live, lets you receive official letters, and is often required when applying for a PESEL, opening a bank account, or registering children for school.

> The word "ZAMELDOWANIE" comes from the German "melden" meaning "to report" - it's a formal way to tell the government where you live. You can register for a **temporary stay (pobyt czasowy)** or **permanent stay (pobyt stały)** depending on your lease or ownership documents.

### Required documents
- Valid passport or ID card (original for inspection)
- Rental agreement, notarial deed, or owner’s written consent; the document must show the address and right to occupy the dwelling
- Visa, residence permit, or other proof of legal stay (if applicable)
- Completed registration form: **Zgłoszenie pobytu czasowego** (temporary) or **Zgłoszenie pobytu stałego** (permanent)
- For minors, birth certificate and IDs of parents/legal guardians
- Optional: PESEL confirmation if you already have one
### How to register step by step
1. **Book a visit** — Check your city hall website; many allow online reservations or [ePUAP](https://epuap.gov.pl/) submissions.
2. **Fill in the form** — Print from [gov.pl](https://www.gov.pl/web/gov/zameldowanie-na-pobyt-czasowy-lub-staly) or complete at the office. Forms must be signed by you and, when required, by the property owner.
3. **Visit the office** — Go to your **Urząd Gminy/Urząd Miasta** (or district office in large cities) with originals and copies. Some offices accept a representative with a power of attorney (17 PLN stamp duty).
4. **Submit documents** — An official will verify your stay basis, housing rights, and identity. They may ask the owner to confirm your stay by phone or in person.
5. **Receive confirmation** — Registration is free. Ask for a **Zaświadczenie o zameldowaniu** (17 PLN stamp duty) if you need written proof.

> Temporary registration lasts until the end date on your lease/consent. Renew it when you extend your contract. Permanent registration remains valid until you officially deregister or move.

### Deregistration (wymeldowanie)
- Deregister when you move out or switch to a new address. You can do this in person at the office or online via [ePUAP](https://epuap.gov.pl/). Not deregistering can cause mail and legal issues.

### Owner’s presence and consent
- Some offices may call or require the owner to confirm your stay. Bring the owner’s written consent if it is not included in your lease. A notarised statement is rarely required but helps if the owner cannot appear.

### Online submission via ePUAP
- Many municipalities allow online registration/deregistration. Prepare scans of your ID and lease/ownership documents, and sign with [Profil Zaufany](https://www.gov.pl/web/gov/zaloz-profil-zaufany). Keep the electronic receipt (UPO).
